The ‘Mother of Hip Hop,’ MC Sha-Rock is back and on a mission. With the release of her autobiography titled “Luminary Icon” and a movie in the works, MC Sha-Rock’s book, depicts a true story of a young female growing up in the 1970’s in Bronx, New York, during the ground-breaking years of what we all know now as Hip Hop. You will experience the journey of young teenagers/entrepreneurs who were coined as Gladys Knight and the Pips of Hip Hop. The Funky 4 + 1 More grew to become one of the most influential groups who paved the way for hip hop artists of today. MC Sha-Rock decided to write her memoirs because she feels whole heartedly that it is her children’s history as well as the world’s history. “I am at a place in my life where I finally feel that is is necessary to tell my story” - Sha-Rock. Sha-Rock’s career began in 1976 as a b-girl (break dancer). In 1977, she became the first female emcee to join an all male hip-hop group. Original Funky Four members included: Keith Keith, Sha-Rock, Rahiem and KK Rockwell. Around late 1978, Raheim later left the group to join Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five Mc's, Sha-Rock left as well. After taking some time away from the music scene, she returned to the newly formed Funky Four. Members of the group included: Keith Keith, KK Rockwell, Lil Rodney C and the Original Jazzy Jeff. In 1979, they kept the name Funky Four and added the plus one more which was known as Sha-Rock, and the group became known as The Funky Four Plus One More. "She had the realness. Sha-Rock made females relevant. She set the tone so that female Mc's would be taken seriously!" - Ced-Gee Ultra Magnetic Mc’s. "No other female had the spark like Sha-Rock." Every female in the game gave Sha- Rock the utmost respect. She opened the door for all females Mc's" - Jazzy D The Brother's Disco.
